Domestic animals and responsibility

Domesticated animals only exist in such a state because humans have developed them to be dependent on us. By this, I refer largely to dogs, cats, and other animals who have actually developed differently due to human intervention. These animals can no longer survive in our world on their own, hence why homelessness is just as much an issue for pets as it is for humans. While some organizations exist for the welfare of these animals, most of the money allocated for this cause is donation based, and is not enough. It is our responsibility to tax first world citizens for the care of these animals- as their survival skills are only as impaired as they are as a result of our selected them in such a way. Until then, we likely have an obligation to make some contribution towards the welfare of homeless pets, whether through donation, adoption, volunteering or awareness.
